We have lift off! 18 months behind schedule (thanks Covid), we are beyond ecstatic to announce that construction has started on our Island brewery in Dunwich.
Our microbrewery/brewpub will be three storeys; the microbrewery on the ground floor housing a 10hl brewhouse and 200hl cellar, the first floor will feature a 60 seat taproom for beer tasting and food service, with views out towards Moreton Bay; and the top floor will feature a ‘sunset’ roof deck area and two holiday studio apartments.
Double-height glass windows on the approach from Junner Street (and ferry terminal), will reveal shiny stainless steel fermentation tanks. The pedestrian approach continues past the brewhouse (the engine room) to the main entrance situated on Jack Lane where visitors can appreciate the 3 metre high indoor hanging garden.
Once inside the taproom on the first floor, the sense of being a part of a working brewery continues – pull up a stool at the ‘brew deck’ to view down into the brewhouse from the internal ‘void’ situated above the tanks. The third-floor rooftop deck will be an attraction in itself, with stunning elevated views of Straddie’s iconic sunsets.
All things going well, we hope to be open late winter / early spring 2022. But don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated.
Our thanks and appreciation goes out to Lachie and the team at Ballistic Beer who came to our rescue, allowing us to batch brew our core range for the past year. They’re true professionals & very empathic to our vision. We look forward to continuing this partnership during the construction, with no interruption of beer supply!
