Shipwreck Series
Sovereign Black IPA
Crafted on Straddie: inspired by the island’s shipwrecks and perfected to ensure every sip is a treasure worth discovering. Introducing the fourth release in our IPA Shipwreck Series.
Paying tribute to the paddlesteamer Sovereign, that struck the South Passage Bar off Amity Point, North Stradbroke Island in 1847.
Only ten passengers survived, dragged from the sea by brave Quandamooka men who paddled out through the breakers. The wreck scattered wreckage and wool across the sea and sand, marking one of Queensland’s earliest and deadliest maritime disasters. A memorial at Cabarita Park, Amity Point honours the courage of those who risked everything to save others.
‘Old school’ new world hops and a toasty malt profile yield an IPA carefully balanced between dark roast character and bright, piney and citrusy hops. Light, sun drenched and sweet Aussie ale malt lays the foundation for toasty munich and toffee crystal malt with just a hint of roast and chocolate on the finish.
Pine, grapefruit, orange and hints of tropical fruit aromas are backed up by a firm, mouth-watering bitterness that invites another sip. Perfect for cool, clear, starry winter evenings by the camp fire or soaking up the stunning SEQ sunsets.
